Roxtreme Artist App Help!

"The application is a bit awkward, can you give any help?"

Sure, we wanted to try to keep the application one page long and with the advent of digital forms this is possible even if you want to tell us more than what could ever fit on one printed page.

Please note, we would REALLY rather you NOT  fill out the form by hand, but if it is your only option, we understand.  By filling it out digitally we can cut and pasts and it reduces time spent and the chance of errors.  If you are printing out the form and scanning / faxing / mailing it in feel free to use other paper as needed.

First - basics: Overall questions ansered:

  • It's true, we are hoping that we can use this to benefit other ministries and out-reaches.  Email us if you can benefit.

  • If your filling this out digitally (please!) you can take pretty much as much room as you want even if the text scrolls off the form.  Unless you add like, 10 blank spaces in the middle, we will find it.

  • Blanks spots behind "standard" answer check-off boxes are for you to use as you see fit.

  • If you are in a band, try to fill the form out as a band.  Not necessarily filling it out together, but as you want to be represented.  A lot of personality can come through on these, if you can help it, make it the "personality" of the group - not just the form filler.

Specifics and Whys...

These tips and answers to quesions are in the order they appear on the application. Let us know if you need help with some other part.

  • Name: Put it on the form JUST like you want it everywhere - on links, our site, banners, advertisements, etc..  In other words - Slap Dash is not the same as Slapdash or SlapDash or SLAPDASH.  (sorry for picking on friends, here is a link return, they rock!)

  • Phone/e-mail/address: What we are looking for should be obvious, but you don't have to put any of this if you don't want to.  Keep in mind the easier it is to contact you, the easier it will be to coordinate things.

  • Other/Alt Names: Why do you want previous or related band names?  We want to know all about you and your artistic process.

  • Practices held in this City and State - Why?  Well, part of the way we are keeping track of things and although we are not explaining it fully now, how we divvy up the donations to the artists.

  • Webstuff - Why so much space dedicated to this?  Lets be real, most of your fans under the age of... 50 will find you, follow you, connect with you, share you with friends and stay updated with you via the web.  Put everything you have.

  • Label - Why do you care?   Actually, we really don't.  But, it does give us an idea of who you are and where you are headed or want to head.  As always the space behind is for your own use.  We will make the assumption if you mark off only independent that it is your current plan to go to the world without a record company.

  • Artist Type - We are thinking this should be obvious... maybe not?  There are those who only play occasionally on the "side" and they is the way they want it.  There are those who are musicians for a living.  There are those... you get the idea.

  • CATEGORY - This is by far the most misunderstood part of the form and part of the reason is there is an error (we are working on fixing it) on the current version of the applications.  All we are trying to determine here is where you are on the scale of overall musical intensity.

Hymns>Acoustic>Folk>Pop>Rock>Punk>Metal>Screamo>Thrash

We know this is totally inadequate, but where else do you start?  We actually spent months on the lookout for other ideas that were better... and found none.  Share your ideas with us!

  • Genres- Fill it out, pump it as full and descript as you wish.  This is not MySpace, you can put more than three.  There are four spots, but put multiple genres in each if you need to.

  • Spiritual - So category is often misunderstood - Spiritual is often offensive.  Most people will probably check multiple and still use the bland at the end.  There is no pressure here.  We just want to see where you are coming from.  Here is a clip from a blog.

  • Member Names - put them all.  Have more than 6?  Double up on then end line(s).  Do you sometimes use tracts and other times session musicians?  If so, just put session and the details in the other fields.

  • Member Instruments - put all any any typically played instruments.  Number of inputs required is nice, but usually obvious.

  • Member Requirements - We are hoping that we don't see "private rehearsal room, sparkling Welch's White Cider, and imported French cheese" or anything similar.  We are a ministry oriented venue out in a field.  BUT, we do want to provide what you need if we can.  Let us know.  The most common requirements are: Boom mike stands, direct box, and water.... We can do water, usually.

  • VoxMic - Do they need a vocal microphone into the system?  You can put what you want, but most helpful: Yes, No, Optional or anything special.

  • Sound System - Feel free to be detailed.  We expect our system to grow, but we are starting out simple (read free/cheap) at the beginning.  BUT - we have access to other systems and will plan accordingly.

  • Times - We just want to schedule things well.  That simple.  Be realistic and we will do our best to never overbook.

  • Days / Times -  Same type of deal.  Tell us the basics so we don't message you 4 times asking if a Saturday afternoon date is good for you and it NEVER is.

  • Placement - If you know that

  • Venues - Specific places that you love to play.  We can all learn from each other.  You can also put type of venues (coffee house, parks, churches,  clubs, etc.) but, it is not quite as useful.

  • Bands /Artists - Why do we want to know?   Well, most people respect and get along with those that are most like or similar to themselves, or who they would like to be.  Please put specifics.  If you have yet to play with a band/artist that you name, indicate that.

  • Speak at shows (some older applications used the term share - We just mean do expect?  Nothing.  In other words there is no right or wrong answer.  Just let us know if you usually (given the opportunity) talk about anything at your shows.

  • Know about YOU - Tell us what we forgot to ask.  What we really should know.  What we would miss otherwise.  What is distinct about your existence.  Why you exist.  etc...

Application Why

???

Why the application???

We want to do the best job possible in serving the bands and artists that play as well as the fans who love the music.

We believe that it is more likely that we can accomplish that if we can keep track of information and use it to make good decisions.
